Progress this week has had its ups and downs. I finished waterproofing the shower in the main bathroom so it is ready for tiling. I did this in 2 stages. Once the bathroom was all sheeted I installed the puddle waste (a drain within a drain) and waterproofed the whole shower area. I then put in the mortar base which slopes to the waste from all sides.
Today I waterproofed the mortar base so it is sort of like a bucket in a bucket. This should mean that there will be NO leaks.
Last week I filled all the screw holes in the ply ceiling and today I wire brushed all the filler flush. I used a wire brush as the ply has a rough sawn look and I wanted to maintain this without making spots smooth by sanding.
Big mistake.
I put on a coat of stain and this was the result. Bugger. Looks like the ceiling will be painted.
But then I had a sit and think and watched the clouds for a bit.
What if I sand the whole ceiling?
Thats more like it. On the test piece we did the second coat evened the colour out nicely so I will do another coat tomorrow and hopefully it will look great. If not paint it is. The screw holes are not standing out at least. The only downside is having to hold a sander above my head to sand the ceiling. I can tell you for sure it is much less painful sanding a ceiling when it is on the floor, my arms and shoulders are jelly. I am lucky though that the excellent Festool dust extraction on the RO150 sander saves me a face full of dust.
Here are some clouds for DOD.
Cheers
